Founded in 1940, Newberry Electric Cooperative (NEC) is a member-owned, not-for-profit rural electric cooperative proudly serving communities across Fairfield, Laurens, Lexington, and Newberry Counties in South Carolina.

As an electric cooperative, NEC is guided by our mission to provide our members quality service at competitive rates. Because we are member-owned, the people we serve are more than customers. They are the owners of our cooperative. Our Board of Directors is made up of fellow members who are elected by the membership, ensuring our decisions remain transparent, community-focused, and accountable.

Community involvement is central to who we are. Each year, we host our Annual Meeting where members gather to receive updates on cooperative operations, financial performance, and future initiatives. The Annual Meeting is more than a business session. It is an opportunity to connect with neighbors and strengthen the cooperative spirit that has sustained NEC for more than 85 years. Throughout the year, we also support and participate in local events, educational programs, youth leadership opportunities, and community outreach efforts.

NEC is committed to shaping the future of rural South Carolina. By investing in infrastructure improvements, supporting economic development, and expanding broadband access, we help ensure our communities remain competitive and connected in a rapidly changing world.

Today, NEC proudly serves 9,923 members across more than 1,629 miles of electric distribution lines.
