Surge guard
Newberry Electric Cooperative has surge protection equipment installed on the substation and line equipment, but a potentially damaging electrical surge can still enter your home or business through the electrical system, telephone line or TV cable.
For a low monthly fee, NEC members can have a meter-base surge protection device installed on their meter that will protect all of the electrical appliances in the home from a damaging surge.
If the device ever fails and allows a surge to pass through to the appliances, NEC will replace the meter-base unit and the manufacturer will pay up to $50,000 to repair or replace any damaged equipment.
NEC also makes available for purchase, a secondary Panamax brand plug-in unit designed for the computer modem, satellite dish equipment and telephone answering machine. Panamax equipment has a lifetime equipment warranty and either a $100,000 or a $5 million connected equipment warranty, depending on which model you choose. If the unit ever fails, Panamax and NEC will replace it for free.
